Description
The Altman Easy Latch Kit for 1948–1952 Ford F-1 Trucks is the definitive bolt-in solution for owners tired of the "slam and pray" method of closing vintage doors. This kit replaces the original, often worn-out "Bonus Built" era latch technology with a modern, dual-stage "bear jaw" rotary claw, giving your F-1 a solid, vault-like shut that matches the quality of a modern vehicle.
Precision Vehicle-Specific Design
Unlike universal latches that require extensive cutting and welding, this system is engineered specifically for the 1948–1952 Ford truck door geometry:
True Bolt-On Installation: The kit features contoured jam plates designed to match the unique interior curves of your Ford's doors. No welding is required for a standard installation.
Full Handle Integration: These latches are designed to work seamlessly with your original exterior handles, interior handles, and factory door lock cylinders. You get modern safety without losing your truck's period-correct look.
Shaved Handle Ready: If you prefer a completely smooth door, these latches are fully compatible with electronic solenoids for custom shaved handle applications.
Industrial-Grade Construction
Case-Hardened Claws: The internal latch "paws" are 3/16" thick, case-hardened, and finished with a black oxide coating to prevent wear and ensure a lifetime of secure latching.
Corrosion Protection: Every primary component is zinc-plated, protecting the mechanism from the moisture and humidity that often gets trapped inside older door shells.
Stainless Hardware: The kit includes high-strength stainless steel striker pins and washers, ensuring that the most visible part of the latch remains rust-free and aesthetically clean.
What's in the Box?
This comprehensive kit includes everything needed to upgrade both the driver and passenger doors:
Vehicle-specific bear-jaw rotary claw latches and mounting plates.
Precision templates for accurate alignment and cutting.
Stainless steel striker pins and striker plates.
All necessary mounting hardware and detailed instructions.
A Critical Safety Upgrade
Beyond the satisfying "click" of a well-adjusted door, the Altman Easy Latch is a vital safety upgrade. Modern rotary claws are designed to stay latched even under chassis flex or impact, providing significantly more security for you and your passengers than the primitive single-stage latches found in 1948.
