Description
The Altman Easy Latch Kit for 1947–1951 Chevy Trucks is the premier bolt-in solution for the early "Advance Design" series pickup. This kit is specifically engineered to replace primitive, often worn-out factory latches with modern "bear jaw" rotary claw technology, allowing your doors to close with a light, modern "click" instead of a heavy slam.
Precision Vehicle-Specific Design
This kit is not a universal adaptation; it is a dedicated system designed for the unique door shell geometry of 1947–1951 Chevrolet and GMC trucks:
True Bolt-On Installation: The kit features contoured jam plates that match the internal lines of your truck's doors perfectly. No welding is required, making this a clean upgrade for both survivors and high-end restorations.
Handle & Lock Integration: These latches are designed to work seamlessly with your original exterior handles, interior handles, and factory door lock cylinders.
New Interior Linkage: This kit includes two new interior straps that connect your factory inside handles to the new rotary latch, ensuring a crisp and reliable release action.
Shaved Handle Ready: If you are building a custom with "shaved" doors, these latches are fully compatible with electronic solenoids.
Industrial-Grade Construction
Case-Hardened Paws: The internal rotary claws are 3/16" thick, case-hardened, and black-oxide coated to prevent wear and ensure a lifetime of secure latching.
Corrosion Protection: Every primary component is zinc-plated, providing a durable barrier against the moisture that often accumulates inside vintage door shells.
Stainless Hardware: The kit includes high-strength stainless steel striker pins and washers, ensuring that the door jamb hardware remains rust-free and aesthetically clean.
What's in the Box?
This comprehensive kit provides everything needed to upgrade both the driver and passenger side doors:
Vehicle-specific bear-jaw rotary claw latches and mounting plates.
Precision templates for accurate alignment and installation.
Stainless steel striker pins and striker plates.
All necessary mounting hardware and detailed instructions.
Fitment Note
This kit is designed specifically for the turn-down style door handles found on 1947–1951 models. If your truck has been updated with 1952–1954 push-button style doors, a different specific Altman kit is required to match that handle geometry.
Installed on 1954 3100 with 49 doors so took some fabrication to make everything work was definitely not as drop in as I thought for the price but after working thru the issues the door close easier and stay closed now on to trying to figure out how to lock. Also the mounting plates started to rust right away so make sure you paint them before final install
