For 1955 and 1956 Chevrolet cars
The RainGear system will fit all 1955 and 1956 Chevrolet cars with the following known exceptions:
- Air-Tique air conditioning system in a ’55 Chevy only. The 4-outlet defroster duct included in their ’55 kit will not clear the RainGear unit. The easiest solution is to use Air-Tique’s standard 2-outlet defroster duct for ’56/57 Chevys in order to provide the necessary clearance for your RainGear unit. Call us if you need more information on this modification.
- Cross-mount master cylinders will not fit with our RainGear system installed.
The 1955 and 1956 cars have two 3/8″ diameter rods suspended from firewall fittings which support the steering column where the column attaches to the dashboard. The left rod is removed (and not reused) during installation.
The kit comes complete less assembly lube, arms and blades, escutcheons and model-specific knobs for the switch. All those stock pieces will fit on our system. Escutcheons are the exterior trim bezels which cover the pivot posts in the cowl and are available separately, see below.
Please note that the RainGear unit cannot be controlled by any General Motors column-mounted wiper switches. You must use the included switch. This is due to the fact that GM switches control the wiper motor via the ground wire and our systems must be controlled by switching the positive wire.

This system is also available upon request in a version for installing in right-hand drive cars for those of you that drive on the “other” side of the road. Pricing on RHD systems is the same as the regular LHD version.
