The Porter Mufflers Standard Length 26" Stainless Steel Packed Muffler is a classic American-made performance exhaust muffler featuring a heritage design originating in 1931. Hand-crafted from heavy-gauge steel, it delivers a deep, throaty hot rod exhaust note under acceleration while maintaining a mellow, drone-free tone at cruising speeds.
Product Overview & Internal Acoustic Engineering
Standard glass-pack mufflers rely on fiberglass insulation, which degrades, burns out, and produces harsh interior cabin drone over time. Porter Mufflers eliminate this failure point by utilizing a heavy-duty steel spiral core encased in high-density stainless steel wool packing.
As exhaust gases flow through the central spiral chamber, sound waves dissipate into the dense stainless steel packing without restricting exhaust velocity. The non-directional internal layout allows the muffler to be installed in either flow direction without affecting performance or sound attenuation.

Installation & Welding Recommendations
Fully Welded Joints: While band clamps can be used, Porter strongly recommends fully seam-welding the slip-fit joints to ensure a permanent, airtight seal and prevent exhaust leaks or vibration.
Exhaust Hanger Placement: Anchor rubber-isolated exhaust hangers near the front and rear welds of the muffler casing to isolate chassis vibration and prevent strain on headers or tailpipes.
