Description
The Heidts Mustang II Power Rack and Pinion is a high-performance steering upgrade designed to provide smooth, modern steering feel for hot rods, street rods, and restomod projects utilizing a Mustang II-style Independent Front Suspension (IFS).
Precision Steering Input
3/4" 36-Spline Shaft: This rack features a heavy-duty 3/4"-36 spline input shaft, which is the industry standard for performance steering. This allows for a wide range of compatible U-joints and steering shaft couplers to connect to your steering column.
Quick Ratio: Typically designed with a performance ratio (often 2.5 turns lock-to-lock), providing more responsive handling compared to original manual racks.
Pressure and Flow Requirements
To ensure optimal performance and prevent damage to the internal seals, the power steering pump must be tuned to the following specifications:
Recommended Pressure:950–1050 PSI.
Flow Rate:2.7–3.5 GPM (Gallons Per Minute).
Important Note: Many standard GM Saginaw pumps output significantly higher pressure (up to 1200+ PSI). If using a high-pressure pump, a flow control valve or a Heidts Adjustable Proportioning Valve is recommended to dial back the pressure and prevent "twitchy" steering at high speeds.
Fittings and Plumbing
Metric O-Ring Ports: The rack is equipped with 14mm and 16mm O-ring style ports.
The 14mm port is typically the high-pressure inlet.
The 16mm port is the low-pressure return.
Compatibility: These ports are designed for late-model O-ring style fittings. If you are using AN lines, you will need 14mm/16mm to -6 AN adapters.

Mounting Centers: Standard 15-1/2" center-to-center mounting, fitting most aftermarket Mustang II crossmembers.
Construction: All-new unit (not remanufactured) with a durable housing and high-quality internal valving.
Tie Rod Ends: Usually features 9/16"-18 threads for the inner tie rods.

Eligibility for Returns
To be eligible for a return, your item must be:
In the same condition as received
Unworn or unused
With original tags attached
In its original packaging
You must also provide a receipt or proof of purchase.

To initiate a return, please contact us at jonathon@hotrodhardware.com. Once your return request is approved, you will be provided with the return address and, if applicable, an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number.
Important: Items sent back without prior authorization will not be accepted.

Damages and Issues
Please inspect your order upon delivery. If your item is defective, damaged, or if you received the wrong item, contact us immediately so we can evaluate the issue and resolve it promptly.

Exchanges
The fastest way to receive a replacement item is to return your original item (once approved) and place a new order separately.
Free Shipping Orders
Orders that qualified for free shipping are subject to deduction of the original outbound shipping cost if the item is returned.
Refunds
Once your return is received and inspected, we will notify you regarding the approval status of your refund.
If approved:
Refunds will be issued to your original payment method
Any applicable restocking fees will be deducted
Original shipping charges (if applicable) will be deducted
Return shipping costs (if arranged by Hot Rod Hardware) will be deducted
