Description
The Heidts Superide® II IFS System for the 1966–1967 Mercury Comet is a ground-up engineering solution designed to replace the original, restrictive shock tower suspension. Unlike standard Mustang II conversion kits, the Superide® II utilizes advanced geometry specifically tuned for this chassis to provide a modern handling experience while significantly improving ride quality.
Engineering and Performance
Advanced Geometry: This is an all-new design, not a repurposed Mustang II unit. It features built-in anti-dive and optimized camber curves to ensure the tires maintain maximum contact with the road during aggressive cornering.
Lowered Stance: This system is engineered to lower the vehicle by 2 inches, providing a modern, aggressive profile and a lower center of gravity for enhanced stability.
Precision Steering: Standardized with a power rack and pinion, this kit eliminates the vague steering feel and heavy effort associated with the original steering box and drag link.
Locked-In Alignment: The tubular control arms feature threaded adjusters that provide precise alignment settings that will not “slip” or move, even when encountering rough road surfaces.
Construction and Features
Structural Integrity: The kit includes a heavy-duty Heidts crossmember and boxing plates to reinforce the Comet frame, providing a rigid foundation for the new suspension components.
Custom Control Arms: Features tubular upper and lower control arms available in stock or narrowed widths. Narrowed arms are a popular choice for builders looking to run wider front tires while maintaining fender clearance.
Adjustable Dampening: Includes billet adjustable coil-over shocks and springs, available in plain or polished finishes. This allows you to fine-tune the stiffness of the ride to match your driving preference.
Braking Excellence: Standard equipment includes 11-inch rotors paired with 4-piston Wilwood calipers, offering high-performance stopping power that far exceeds factory capabilities.
Kit Includes:
Main Crossmember: Weld-in unit with frame boxing plates.
Control Arms: Tubular upper and lower arms (Stock or Narrowed).
Spindles: Choice of Stock or 2-inch Dropped spindles.
Brakes: 11" rotors and 4-piston Wilwood calipers.
Steering: Power rack and pinion unit.
Suspension: Billet adjustable coil-over shocks and springs.
