Unlock the potential of your unique custom build with our EPAS Custom Build 60 Amp Electric Power Steering Conversion Kit. This versatile system provides modern, adjustable power steering, allowing you to tailor the feel and performance to your specific project, whether you're working with an OEM setup or an aftermarket configuration.
Why Upgrade to Electric Power Steering for Your Custom Build?
Swapping to electric power steering offers significant advantages over traditional hydraulic systems, making it an ideal choice for any custom vehicle:
-
No Pump, No Fluid, No Leaks: Simplify your engine bay and eliminate common failure points. EPAS does away with the need for a bulky hydraulic pump, fluid reservoir, and messy hoses, ensuring a cleaner setup and no fluid leaks.
-
Reduced Engine Drag: Unlike hydraulic systems that constantly draw power from your engine, our electric system only activates when assistance is needed. This means more of your engine's power is sent directly to the wheels, potentially improving your vehicle's performance and efficiency.
-
Dynamic Assist When You Need It: The system intelligently activates only when you're turning, providing substantial power assistance at low speeds (perfect for parking or tight maneuvers) and a firmer, more connected feel at higher speeds. This intelligent design gives you the best of both worlds – effortless control and enhanced road feedback.
-
Fully Adjustable Feel: An integrated adjustable potentiometer empowers you to fine-tune the level of steering assist to perfectly match your driving style and vehicle's demands. Dial in maximum assist for comfortable daily driving, or reduce it for a more performance-oriented feel.
-
Reliable & Maintenance-Free: Electric systems are built for durability and require virtually no maintenance. They're also less prone to wear compared to their hydraulic counterparts, meaning more time enjoying your custom build and less time on upkeep.
What's Included in the Kit:
This comprehensive conversion kit provides the essential components for your custom application:
- A powerful 60 amp electric motor unit that delivers robust steering assistance.
- All the necessary mounting hardware for a secure and straightforward installation.
- A prewired control module to simplify the setup process.
-
Race cooling fans are included to ensure optimal operating temperatures (the number of fans varies per application).
How It Works: Intelligent & Customizable Power
Our EPAS system uses a sophisticated computer to measure the amount of effort you apply to the steering wheel. An integrated electric motor then amplifies this effort, providing immediate and accurate power assist. The included adjustable potentiometer puts you in complete control, allowing you to customize the amount of assistance. For example, you can enjoy maximum power assist while in a parking lot, and less on the highway. The system is also highly efficient, activating only when you're turning.
Kit Notes:
- THIS KIT WILL NOT WORK WITH A OE COLUMN SHIFT STEERING COLUMN - FLOOR SHIFT ONLY.
-
Low Power Draw: Features a minimal 9 amp draw, reducing strain on your vehicle's electrical system.
-
Average Install Time: Expect an average installation time of 10 hours. Some cutting will be required during the process.
-
Exclusions: The steering wheel and column are not included with this kit.
-
Adaptability to Rack or Steering Box: This system can be adapted to either a steering rack or a traditional steering box setup.
Custom Application Information Required:
To ensure we supply the correct components for your unique build, please provide the following details when ordering:
-
Is the vehicle OEM from steering wheel to steering box?
- On OEM columns, we'll need to know the steering tube Outer Diameter (OD) and steering shaft size/style (e.g., DD, Round, Splined, Hollow).
- If equipped with an aftermarket column, we'll need to know the steering tube OD and shaft size (e.g., DD, Round, Splined, Hollow).
- If the vehicle has a stock steering box, we'll need to know what the box output is (e.g., DD, Round, Splined, Hollow).
-
Are you adapting to a steering rack?
- You'll be responsible for the shaft from the rack to the firewall. A 3/4'' DD shaft is preferred but not strictly required; we'll try to adapt to your chosen shaft size. We'll need to know this measurement to supply the proper U-joint.
- Please note: The kit doesn't come with additional linkages to reach the rack; these must be purchased separately. For steering rack equipped vehicles, please contact EPAS Performance before placing your order as we'll need additional information to complete your order, including the size of the shaft used to get from the rack to the firewall.
-
Need an aftermarket column?
- We can provide a 32'' universal IDIDIT tilt column. You'll need to cut and modify it at your own discretion to fit your specific application.
Installation: Installation manuals for both straight shaft and collapsible shaft custom builds are available. The installation of this system should be performed by a professional mechanic or a very knowledgeable amateur to ensure proper function and safety.
