Description
The Universal GM Corvette-Style Master Cylinder is a staple in the hot rod and muscle car world. Based on the iconic design used on late 1960s and 70s Corvettes, this master cylinder is prized for its reliability, compact footprint, and clean aesthetic.
Key Specifications & Features
1-Inch Bore: This bore size is widely considered the "universal standard" for custom builds. It provides an ideal balance between pedal travel and hydraulic pressure, making it highly effective for both disc/drum and four-wheel disc brake configurations.
Dual-Purpose Design: The unit is engineered to work with both manual and power brake systems. It includes a specialized piston insert that adapts to either a long manual push-rod or a shorter power booster output rod.
Corrosion-Resistant Black Finish: The sleek black coating provides a modern, "murdered-out" look under the hood while protecting the casting from the corrosive nature of brake fluid and road moisture.
Safety First: Features a split-reservoir internal design. In the event of a leak in the front or rear lines, the remaining reservoir stays pressurized to ensure you can still bring the vehicle to a safe stop.
Installation & Plumbing
Standard Mounting: Utilizes the classic GM 2-bolt mounting pattern, making it a direct bolt-on for the majority of aftermarket brake boosters and firewall brackets.
Universal Ports: Typically equipped with exit ports on both sides (or a standard side-exit), allowing for flexible line routing to clear steering columns, headers, or shock towers.
Technical Tip
When installing this master cylinder, it is critical to "bench bleed" the unit before mounting it to the vehicle. This removes trapped air from the internal piston bores, ensuring a firm pedal and proper brake response from the very first drive.
