The Clayton Machine Works Custom Interior Aluminum Trim is a versatile, builder-friendly trim solution designed for custom street rod, muscle car, and hot rod interiors. Machined from soft-temper aluminum, this square grooved trim can be hand-bent, shaped, and polished to form custom door-panel accent lines, dash trim, or console highlights.
Product Overview & Material Properties
Standard rigid interior moldings are difficult to curve around custom-upholstered door panels and dashboard contours without specialized metal-shrinking tools.
Clayton Machine Works solves this by using 6063-T0 aluminum in an un-heat-treated (T0) soft state. This alloy temper provides high ductility, allowing builders to carefully form the trim by hand or around soft-jawed bucking tools to follow complex compound curves, door-swage lines, and interior upholstery contours without cracking or kinking the metal.

Installation & Metalworking Recommendations
-
Hand-Bending & Templates: Create a wire or cardstock template of the door panel curve, then gradually press the aluminum trim into shape using a leather mallet or soft-jawed vice to avoid marring the grooved surface.
-
Polishing Order: Shape and test-fit all trim pieces on the upholstery panel first, then perform final sanding (800–2000 grit) and rouge-wheel polishing prior to final mounting.
-
Mounting Methods: Secure to upholstery boards using panel clips, studs threaded into the back, or high-strength panel adhesive.
