Description
The 1974–1981 Chevy Camaro Pro-G® Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) Kit by Heidts Suspension is a high-performance, bolt-in chassis transformation designed specifically for late second-generation F-Body platforms (Camaro and Firebird).Built to replace the heavy, rigid factory solid rear axle, this system allows each rear wheel to articulate independently, optimizing the tire contact patch for autocross, road racing, and high-G street cornering.
Key System Architecture & Performance Highlights
True Independent Suspension Dynamics:Moves the center differential housing to a fixed chassis mounting location, reducing unsprung mass. Each wheel moves through its travel arc independently without disturbing the opposite tire.
Precision Camber Gain Curve:The upper link geometry is engineered to deliver a -0.5° camber gain at 3/4 suspension travel, tilting the outside tire inward under severe cornering loads to keep the contact patch flat against the road.
High Horsepower Capacity:Utilizes heavy-duty CV half-shafts designed to safely process high torque outputs without axle deflection or wheel hop.
No Floor Pan Cutting:Designed as a bolt-in package that fits the stock second-generation Camaro unibody floor pan.
Subframe Connectors Required:Included subframe connectors tie the front subframe to the rear IRS cradle, providing the longitudinal rigidity necessary to handle IRS lateral side loads.
Mini-Tub Compatibility:Works with standard factory rear wheel wells or aftermarket mini-tubs to allow wider rear tire configurations (up to 335mm widths depending on wheel offset).
Axle Alignment:After installation, fully adjust rear toe-in, track, and static camber using the built-in lower and upper control arm adjustment points before track testing.
