Unleash superior control and performance in your 1964-1967 Ford Mustang race car with our purpose-built Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) Conversion Kit! Engineered for demanding track conditions, this system delivers precise, adjustable steering assistance, optimizing your vehicle's response and your driving experience.
Why Upgrade to Electric Power Steering for Race Applications?
Swapping to electric power steering offers significant performance advantages over traditional hydraulic systems, making it a critical upgrade for your Mustang:
-
No Pump, No Fluid, No Leaks: Eliminate the weight, complexity, and potential failure points of hydraulic pumps, fluid reservoirs, and hoses. This simplifies your engine bay and reduces the risk of messy fluid spills on the track.
-
Reduced Engine Drag: Unlike hydraulic systems that constantly draw power from your engine, our electric system only activates when assistance is needed. This means more of your engine's power is sent directly to the wheels, translating to increased horsepower and improved acceleration where it counts.
-
Dynamic Assist When You Need It: The system intelligently activates only when you're turning, providing significant power assistance at low speeds (perfect for pit maneuvers or tight corners) and a firmer, more connected feel at high speeds. This intelligent design gives you the best of both worlds – effortless control for quick transitions and enhanced road feedback for pushing limits.
-
Fully Adjustable Feel: An integrated adjustable potentiometer empowers you to fine-tune the level of steering assist to perfectly match your racing style and specific track conditions. Dial in maximum assist for quick turn-in, or reduce it for a more direct, unassisted feel on high-speed straights.
-
Reliable & Maintenance-Free: Electric systems are built for durability in high-stress environments and require virtually no maintenance. They are less prone to wear compared to their hydraulic counterparts, meaning more time on the track and less time in the garage.
What's Included in the Kit:
This race-ready conversion kit provides the essential components for your upgrade:
- A powerful 60 amp electric motor unit designed for robust performance under demanding conditions.
- All the necessary mounting hardware for a secure and precise installation.
- A prewired control module for straightforward setup.
-
Race cooling fans are included to ensure optimal operating temperatures during intense track use (the number of fans varies per application).
How It Works: Intelligent & Customizable Performance
Our EPAS system utilizes a sophisticated computer to measure the amount of effort you apply to the steering wheel. An integrated electric motor then amplifies this effort, providing immediate and accurate power assist. The included adjustable potentiometer puts you in complete control, allowing you to customize the amount of assistance. For example, you can have maximum power assist while in the pits or navigating tight chicanes, and less on the highway for a more direct feel. The system is highly efficient, activating only when you're turning.
Kit Notes:
-
Low Power Draw: Features a minimal 9 amp draw, reducing strain on your vehicle's electrical system.
-
Average Install Time: Expect an average installation time of 10 hours. Some cutting will be required during the process.
-
Exclusions: The steering wheel and column are not included with this kit.
-
Adaptability to Rack or Steering Box: This system can be adapted to either a steering rack or a traditional steering box setup.
-
