What Mercury Body Panels Are the Same as Ford?

If you’re restoring a classic Mercury, it’s natural to wonder which body panels are shared with Ford models. After all, Mercury and Ford often rolled off the same assembly lines and shared much of their engineering. But when it comes to sheet metal, the details matter — and not every Mercury part crosses over perfectly.

At HotrodHardware.com, we’ve broken down which Mercury models share sheet metal with Ford and which panels are unique, so you’ll know exactly what fits your project.

1939–1940 Mercury

These early Mercurys are truly one-of-a-kind.

  • Front clip: Unique

  • All sheet metal: Unique

We currently don’t offer any sheet metal for 1939–40 Mercurys, as these panels are specific to those models.

1941–1948 Mercury

From the firewall back, these Mercurys share much with their Ford counterparts.

  • Front clip: Unique to Mercury

  • From firewall back: Same as Ford

If you’re replacing floor pans, rockers, or trunk floors, you can use Ford application information for a perfect fit.

1949–1951 Mercury

The 1949–1951 Mercury might be a legend among custom car builders, but its body is all its own.

  • All sheet metal: Completely unique to Mercury

  • Availability: No reproduction metal available

These cars are distinct from the same-year Fords, and panels do not interchange.

1952–1954 Mercury

By the early ’50s, Mercury and Ford began sharing more underbody components.

  • Front clip: Unique to Mercury

  • Floor pans: Same as Ford

  • Rocker panels: Same as Ford

  • Rear quarter panels:

    • Behind the rear wheel opening: Different than Ford

    • In front of the rear wheel opening: Undetermined (contact us for the latest info)

These models blend Ford-style floors and rockers with Mercury-only outer panels.

1955–1956 Mercury

For these years, Mercury and Ford again shared much of the underbody design.

  • Front clip: Unique

  • Floor pans: Same as Ford

  • Rocker panels: Same as Ford

  • Rear quarter panels:

    • Behind the rear wheel opening: Different

    • In front of the rear wheel opening: Undetermined—call us for updates

At Hotrod Hardware, we recommend using Ford reproduction pans and rockers for a great fit on these Mercurys.

1957–1958 Mercury

For 1957–58, Mercury offered both small-body and large-body cars, and this distinction makes a big difference in parts compatibility.

Small-Body Mercury (Similar to Ford Fairlane 500)

  • Front clip: Unique to Mercury

  • Floor pans: Same as Ford

  • Rocker panels: Same as Ford

  • Rear quarter panels:

    • Behind the rear wheel opening: Different than Ford

    • In front of the rear wheel opening: Usable with modification

If you’re restoring a small-body Mercury, many Ford Fairlane 500 panels will fit or can be adapted.

Large-Body Mercury

  • All panels: Unique to Mercury

  • Availability: Parts not available at this time
